Common to RPGs or action RPGs are powerful enemies that normally can't be fought when first encountered. Bravely Default 2 makes sure to include plenty of sidequests that require players to defeat challenging, yet completely optional bosses.
In Bravely Default 2, there is a subset of enemies known as Rare Monsters. There are 14 Rare Monsters scattered across Excillant. Most can be fought without accepting the respective quest, but players want to be at the appropriate level. While the Rare Monsters can drop powerful weapons/armor or useful items, they are considered Rare Drops, thus not 100% guaranteed.
Location: Near the Hydrangea Hills dungeon at the north of Halcyonia.
Weaknesses: Lightning, Daggers, Bows.
Recommended Level: 8-10
Drops: Main-Gauche (Dagger)
Tip: Hit allies if they are inflicted by Leannan Sith's Charm. Fairly easy and one of the only Rare Monsters that can be fought when first encountered.
Coral Emperor
Location: On an island south of Halcyonia.
Weaknesses: Lightning, Daggers, Swords.
Recommended Level: 25+
Drops: Ice Brand (Sword)
Tip: Avoid using Elemental Magic (aside from Lightning).
Treant
Location: Opposite of Leannan Sith; at the northeast of Halcyonia.
Weaknesses: Dark, Lightning, Axes.
Recommended Level: 40+
Drops: Rhongomiant (Spear)
Tip: Defeat the Fresh Forklings before targeting Treant.
Skullcap
Location: Hidden at the east of Wiswald.
Weaknesses: Fire, Daggers, Axes
Recommended Level: 20+
Drops: Spiked Helm (Helmet)
Tip: Keep spamming Fire spells on Skullcap and have a non-magic unit defeat the summoned Fungoos.
Orc King
Location: West of Wiswald.
Weaknesses: Fire, Spears, Bows
Recommended Level: 30+
Drops: Genji Helm (Helmet)
Tip: Have someone with high defense (Shieldmaster) to withstand Orc King's single-target attacks.
Baal
Location: At the top of Northeast Wiswald.
Weaknesses: Water, Light, Swords
Recommended Level: 45+
Drops: Carnwenhan (Dagger)
Tip: Avoid using physical attacks because Baal's Ensnare will steal weapons. While the weapons can be recovered upon Baal's defeat, they will be unavailable during the fight once they are stolen. Instead, use a Red Mage or Oracle to dish out magic attacks.
Mushussu
Location: On an island outside of Savalon's tunnels. Note: The tunnels are accessible in Bravely Default 2's main story and must be cleared before players can fight Mushussu. Keep going north past the first save point and there will be an exit to Mushussu's island.
Weaknesses: Earth, Water, Spears, Swords
Recommended Level: 14+
Drops: Defender (Sword)
Tip: Get rid of the Piestes with magic (Red Mage).
Tip: Have Earth-resistant gear equipped and use Rampart on every turn. Balance BP wisely (bring Ethers) so Sanctuary can be used to negate damage.
Baba Yaga
Location: Near the shore at the north of Rimedhal.
Weaknesses: Wind, Daggers, Bows
Recommended Level: 30+
Drops: Sage's Staff (Staff)
Tips: Have Charm and Lightning-resistant equipment. Baba Yaga will absorb Lightning magic, so avoid using that or it will heal her. The larger threats are the Yeti and Aka-Oni.
Astaroth
Location:
Weaknesses: Light, Lightning, Spears, Daggers
Recommended Level: 30+
Drops: Tristan's Bow (Bow)
Tip: Wear Dread-resistant gear. Keep HP up and use magic to defeat Astaroth.
Zeus
Location: At the end of the north of Holograd.
Weaknesses: Dark, Swords, Spears
Recommended Level: 30+
Drops: Asclepius (Staff)
Tip: Use Rampart to block Judgement Bolt.
Cyclops
Location: Near a chest at the south of Holograd.
Weaknesses: Light, Lightning, Axes
Recommended Level: 50+
Drops: Sensei's Belt (Accessory)
Tip: Avoid using magic attacks on the Ahrimans because they will be countered. Use Elemental Supplement on a physical attacker instead.
Susanoo
Location: In the flames at the west of Holograd.
Weaknesses: Light, Staffs
Recommended Level: 45+
Drops: Mal Meadworth (Sword)
Tip: Equip Doom/InstaDeath-resistant gear before going into this fight. Heal magic also works against Susanoo.
