After Alejandro Jodorowsky failed to get his version off the ground and David Lynch disowned his version when it was butchered by the studio, Denis Villeneuve is the latest visionary filmmaker to dare to bring Frank Herbert’s Dune to the big screen. Herbert’s mind-bending sci-fi opus has famously been considered “unadaptable” for decades, but this 156-minute masterpiece based on the first half of the novel has finally done it justice.
