Lemnis Gate is Worth Playing, Even for Non-FPS Fans

It’s fair to say that the recent release of Lemnis Gate caught the attention of gamers, as the one vs. one FPS has an interesting gameplay loop that sets it apart from other titles in its genre. Lemnis Gate features a diverse range of playable characters, each with their own weapons and abilities. The basic explanation of Lemnis Gate’s gameplay is that players choose operatives and battle for objectives to win the game, but there’s more to it than that.

Lemnis Gate has already launched and is one of the hundreds of games available through Game Pass. This makes it worth checking out for Game Pass subscribers on Xbox and PC already, but its unique gameplay should convince those sitting on the fence. Lemnis Gate has carved out its own take on the FPS genre that combines elements from a variety of games to create a confusing yet fun multiplayer experience.

Lemnis Gate’s Unique Premise

Lemnis Gate is now available, and it is a unique title that introduces an interesting new genre to the world of gaming. Lemnis Gate is best described as a turn-based combat strategy FPS, and if it sounds like there’s a lot going on in that description, it’s because there is. Lemnis Gate is an interesting merging of genres that has produced a memorable game. Players enter an empty map in the first round and deploy one of seven operatives. From there the player takes over their operative for that round and has 25 seconds to set traps, capture objectives, or kill enemy operatives. Each round the player adds a new operative, and any action completed in a previous round will be carried out again by the same operative.

Lemnis Gate is an RTS FPS in which players can kill enemy operatives, and this can throw a bit of a spanner in the works. While a player can choose to kill an enemy operative in one round to disrupt their actions, in future rounds, the opposing player can choose to intervene and prevent their operative’s death. In doing so, they will kill the operative that previously killed one of their operatives, further adding to the confusion of Lemnis Gate’s round-based gameplay. If an operative is killed during their “live round,” they become a ghost and can perform actions such as shooting their weapon and using their abilities. These have no effect during the live round, but in future rounds, the player can choose to save their ghost operative.

Who is Lemnis Gate For?

Those who aren’t the biggest fans of first person shooters may still find Lemnis Gate to be an enjoyable experience. As may be obvious at this point, Lemnis Gate isn’t exactly a traditional FPS game like Call of Duty or Battlefield, as there are just as many RTS elements as there are FPS elements. Additionally, Lemnis Gate’s unique round-based, time-loop gameplay adds a further layer to its RTS FPS gameplay. Lemnis Gate may appeal to RTS fans, FPS fans, fans of both genres, or even fans of neither given the unique experience produced by the coming together of all of Lemnis Gate’s different elements.

For example, fans of Deathloop’s unique time loop gameplay may find Lemnis Gate’s round-based time loop equally pleasing. It carries the same aspect of learning upon a previous run’s mistakes and correcting them in the future rounds. While it may initially feel overwhelming to hop into a game of Lemnis Gate or Deathloop, as the loops progress, the player becomes more familiar with the routine of each loop. Like Deathloop, Lemnis Gate is a game where players feel a marked improvement in their abilities to impact the game as time goes on. Time loop games have become a lot more prominent in recent times, and as a result of their success, it’s possible that they may begin to carve out their own genre with a dedicated fanbase. Because of this, as well as its RTS and FPS elements, Lemnis Gate is worth checking out for a wide range of gamers.

Lemnis Gate is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
