Marvel Studios’ What If…? has taken viewers on a very interesting journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In its eight episode-run so far, it has shown things like Peggy Carter taking the super-soldier serum and Doctor Strange destroying the universe in his quest to bring the love of his life back to life. The studio has now revealed the poster for the season finale episode, which airs on Wednesday, and it features Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy.
As fans will know, the What If…? episodes present tales from the MCU, with a minor twist. In the same way, the new poster isn’t an introduction to the Gamora that fans have seen in the MCU already. This version (or variant) of Gamora seems to have taken the mantle from her father, Thanos, and is seen wearing armor similar to his in the newly released poster.

In episode 8 of What If…?, it was seen that Ultron defeated Thanos with ease and even managed to obtain all the Infinity Stones. With the Mad Titan dead, his adoptive daughter Gamora might be stepping into his shoes. But, with her still alive, fans are now wondering how Thanos was able to obtain the Soul Stone. That is a question that the season finale hopefully answers.
It is also surprising that the series is introducing a new character so late in the season. While Gamora was spotted in the penultimate episode as she fought some of Ultron’s soldiers, she hasn’t played an important role in What If…?'s version of the MCU yet. Guardians fans are excited to see the character being brought into the fold.
So far, all the What If…? episodes were leading to Ultron’s arrival and his discovery of the Multiverse, with episode 8 ending on a cliffhanger. It seems like The Watcher and evil Doctor Strange will be assembling a team of heroes to fight Ultron, but it remains to be seen what role will Gamora play in the battle. Will she be an ally or another enemy? Only time will tell.
However, in the mid-season What If…? trailer, Gamora was also visible and sporting the same armor as the one in the newly released poster. She was spotted with the heroes, who seemed to be assembling to fight a threat. This could be hinting at her still being one of the good guys, but with What If…?, anything is possible.
