Nintendo 64 Switch Controller Going for Ridiculous Prices on Ebay

Not too long ago, Nintendo announced its Expansion Pack to Nintendo Switch Online which will see select Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis added to the service for an upcharge. The price for Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack upset many fans of the big N, but at the same time, many are also likely willing to play it for the older games.

Essentially, the Expansion Pack costs 50 bucks for a whole year or 80 bucks for a Family membership for 12 months. This is roughly double the price of the standard subscription, yet players do know that more Nintendo 64 games will be added to the service over the next few months. For those who are wanting an authentic as possible experience too, Nintendo is selling a Nintendo 64 controller for Switch (as well as the Sega Genesis controller) to go alongside the subscription.

These controllers are expected to ship on October 25, the same day these new games are releasing on the service. The controller isn’t too costly, coming in at 50 bucks, but like many tech items amid the pandemic, it does seem to be experiencing some shortages. Fans have already bought all the pre-order stock Nintendo had of the controller, with many turning to resellers like eBay where scalpers are ready to take advantage.

As seen above and below, Nintendo 64 Switch controllers are already being scalped from pre-orders. Many of the listings include the new controller for $90-129 dollars, essentially doubling the retail price in some resells. Some go further upward into the 150-200 dollar range. Some resellers have both the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis Switch Controllers listed for 200-250 dollars, which would be roughly $150 more than they are currently valued at retail.

Indeed, with Nintendo running out of pre-order stock and many likely turning to resellers, these controllers may be more costly than many originally anticipated. The best way to combat scalpers, generally, is to not buy from them, but those who want that authentic experience but were late to snagging a controller may find it hard to resist. After all, N64 games for Switch have been in high demand for quite some time.

It’s unfortunate and, hopefully, Nintendo stock on the controller stabilizes sooner than PS5/Xbox Series X shortages have. Both consoles are still expecting shortages into 2022, and scalpers who snag as many as they can and resell as high as they can are certainly not helping the situation.
