Alongside extensive reworks for each hero so that they fit into the 5v5 format of Overwatch 2, all the characters are getting a visual redesign as well. Recently, Blizzard showed off Bastion’s new look in Overwatch 2, though one fan clearly thought that it needed something more.
Bastion’s new look is one of the Overwatch 2 redesigns that is on the subtle side of things. Unlike Widowmaker or Baptiste, who wear very different outfits alongside new hairstyles, Bastion being an Omnic limits the changes that can be made. He now boasts a green color scheme, with a few different shades seen. Another neat touch sees a special perch for his pet bird Ganymede placed on his left shoulder, allowing them to stick together whenever Bastion is not in his turret form.

However, the most interesting thing about Bastion’s redesign is the Torbjorn connection. Bastion and Torbjorn are confirmed to be close friends in the sequel, something that explains the upgrades made to the robotic hero’s moveset. While this closeness between the two could end up playing a role in the game’s PvE campaign, Blizzard also includes something in Bastion’s new look that pays homage to this interesting friendship. Specifically, the hat on Bastion’s head is one of Torbjorn’s, and Redditors like DemonicXanimal believed Ganymede deserved one, too.
Given the popularity of Ganymede, it is hardly a surprise that Overwatch 2 fans pushed for the bird to get a hat as well. While some specifically called for it to be placed on the bird’s head during a new highlight intro, DemonicXaminal instead edited a photo of Bastion to give Ganymede a Torbjorn hat. The close-up shot is hilarious and adorable, as Bastion’s flying friend looks great with his new headwear. With this edit giving fans exactly what they wanted to see, it is hardly a surprise that it has brought in so many upvotes and positive comments.
It will be interesting to see how popular Bastion is in the sequel. While his lack of mobility ensured he had limited use in the first game, and in turn made him one of the least used heroes in competitive play, Bastion’s Overwatch 2 rework changes a lot. With the Omnic now able to move in turret form and having some extra abilities to play with, he should be a lot more useful to his team. If he fails to win people over, though, at least his new hat is popular with fans.
As of now, it is unclear if Blizzard will listen to fan requests when it comes to Ganymede’s hat. Even if it does not, Overwatch players will always have this awesome photo to look towards if they want an idea of how it would look.
Overwatch 2 is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
