Rumor: Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl May Have Nursery Instead of Daycare

Pokemon trainers are now about a month away from revisiting the Sinnoh region as Nintendo brings Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to the Switch. Developed by ILCA, the game were originally announced back in February as part of the 25th Pokemon Anniversary Celebration. The biggest change moving from the original Nintendo DS games is the visual overhaul, which takes on a chibi-style look on the overworld, with battles featuring normal sized characters during battles.

While the gameplay appears to closely resemble what fans remember of the classic games, there are a few other changes coming to the game many of which add quality of life updates. One of the bigger ones is with the Underground region being completely redesigned as well as players being able to use whatever HM they have acquired through wild Pokemon. Now, another rumor has begun circulating indicating another big change from the original games regarding the old daycare system.

On the PokeLeaks subReddit, a user named AzureRojka noticed on the main Diamond and Pearl website may have tipped its hand with regards to the daycare system. On a page discussing how to evolve the mythical water-type Pokemon Manaphy, the page indicates that players can check Manaphy and a Ditto into the Pokemon Nursery at Solaceon Town to find an egg. Adding that egg to the player's party will eventually cause it to hatch into a Phione.

The surprising element to this information is the mention of a Nursery at Solaceon Town as the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games on the Nintendo DS featured a Daycare. In terms of gameplay, the Nursery is primarily used to breed Pokemon, while the daycare can take on Pokemon left by the player to make them stronger while also producing eggs. As players noted in the comments, many of the quality of life updates appear to modernize the game to generation 8 standards. As most fans indicate in the thread, this appears to be a welcomed change.

As players saw in September, the game's original Amity Square has also gone under some big changes. Originally a small park found at the end of Hearthome City with collectables and accessories to find, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl expand Amity Square. More Pokemon will be allowed to follow the player along with a new Photo and Video mode that can be used to create custom media like screenshots. In addition, there's a Poffin maker that allows players to bake alongside Pokemon for higher level food and improving friendship. Better friendship allows players an easier time preparing for Contests.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl release on November 19, 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
