It seems like one of Rockstar Games' worst-kept secrets was the existence of Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition as leaks and rumors have been circling the internet for months about the collection. Luckily for Rockstar, however, a remastered version of the trilogy has been at the top of many GTA fans' wishlists for quite a while. While today's announcement was certainly satisfying for anyone waiting for the shoe to drop, it puzzlingly omitted any sort of solidified release date, instead opting to end the teaser by simply saying "coming soon."
While today's announcement was just the first piece of information on Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition, and there's still much more to come, it seems like announcing it without a release date is a strange move. Hopefully, the trilogy's release window information is coming soon so that fans can properly slot out the required gaming time that it'll take to complete three of Rockstar's most detail-rich titles.

It's not uncommon for announcement trailers for games to go live without a specific release date set for the title. Usually, though, they'll give some sort of general information about when fans can expect a release. For example, the recently announced Layers of Fear 3's teaser has a vague "2022" which gives fans a very broad understanding about when they'll be able to expect to hear more about the game.
That's a completely new game, however, so it's going to take much more time to develop than a remaster of already finished titles - which is why remastered games usually get announced relatively close to their release dates. Alan Wake Remastered, for example, was announced just a few weeks before its launch. As such, the GTA remastered trilogy's "coming soon" is likely accurate, but it's puzzling why Rockstar didn't include a finalized release date if it's truly right around the corner.
What's more, leaks from Steam data seem to suggest that Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition is coming in November. If that's the case, then it's curious why Rockstar didn't just say that in the first place. The information isn't confirmed yet as there's no official release date, but Steam curator pages tend to be accurate and have confirmed plenty of other game launches in the past.
There's another upcoming date that seems to make sense for the remastered trilogy's release: October 22. That day marks the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3, which is included in the remastered trilogy and was given extra focus in Rockstar's announcement post. If the "coming soon" in the teaser trailer meant "soon" as in two weeks from now, it feels like a weird move to not include the date in the trailer.

Although a lot of seemingly credible information makes the lack of release information in the teaser somewhat puzzling, there isn't anything to be worried about for the release of the game. Even if it's announced to be coming outside the rumored release windows, it still shouldn't be too far off, and will likely be launching at some point later this year like Rockstar has said it will.
Additionally, while fans have been waiting for an announcement for quite some time, a rerelease of older titles doesn't carry the same weight as a brand new Rockstar game. "Coming soon" can certainly work for the remastered trilogy, but likely wouldn't fly with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. Fans have been hoping for news on both titles, but GTA The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition doesn't quite have the same levels of excitement building for it as the next mainline entry does. Still,
Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition launches later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It will release on Android and iOS in the first half of 2022.
