One of the most talked-about games right now is New World, a massively multiplayer online RPG developed by Amazon Games. In a market littered with fantastic MMORPGs, New World has managed to stand out with engaging combat, addictive level progression, and a unique universe to explore. It has become so popular since its release in late September, that it has managed to top Steam's most played games chart in the last 24 hours.
A lot of Steam users are jumping into Aeternum Island, the fictional island that is the setting for the game. So many, in fact, that New World has seen very high queue times. This put a bit of a damper on the initial excitement surrounding the game's launch. This hasn't stopped people from playing, however. According to Steam, New World topped out at 913,634 players recently, reaching the top of the most played games chart, an impressive feat for a new IP.

Those looking to see what makes this game so intriguing will have a much easier time of actually entering the title soon, now that Amazon is cracking down on AFK players. Some players have been using small movements to circumvent the AFK system that is set in place to boots inactive players out, freeing up space for new ones to log in. While the details on how Amazon is solving this issue haven't been specified, players who the system deems repeat offenders will receive harsher penalties.
As with all new titles, there are a lot of kinks that still need to be worked out. Outside of queue times, a number of other concerns are being brought up by players to Amazon Games. One of the biggest has to do with War Mode, with many claiming New World endgame PvP may be too exclusive for most players to engage in. The way the mode restricts engagements to a 50 person cap leaves out much of the playerbase.
For players to engage in one of the game's biggest features, they will need to join a major Company and be picked by the Company's leaders to participate. Leaders have complete control over who joins Wars and who doesn't, which will lead to them to play favorites. Players believe one logical solution would be to include more, smaller territories for smaller Companies to fight for as well.
In addition to queues and War mode improvements, players would like changes to New World's auto-running and inventory management, too. As it stands, players cannot auto-run and open up their inventory at the same time, something allowed in most other MMORPGs. Amazon Games will likely address many of these ongoing concerns as time goes on, but for now, none of them have stopped the game's momentum -- it continues to stay at or near the top of the Steam charts.
New World is available now on PC.
