Overwatch players are always sharing artwork for their favorite heroes, and one character that is often shown some love from fans is Mercy. One Overwatch player has continued the trend, giving the angelic healer a makeover fitting of a Japanese comic book.
Mercy is one of Overwatch’s most popular heroes for several reasons. For starters, she is one of the simplest heroes to play, meaning that those who start out in the Support category will likely give the doctor a try. This builds a connection to her for many fans, something that has obviously extended to art. Her interesting personality has helped, too, as she can be both cheerful and serious. Most of all, Mercy’s memorable design has made her a target for all kinds of artists.

While there have been plenty of great Mercy cosplays and concept art pieces that focus on the uniqueness of the design, the latest art is particularly special. Made by Reddit user Snoo_97932, the drawing is entirely black and white, with none of Overwatch’s bright color palette able to be seen. It is full of intricate details, however, and the changes made to Mercy’s overall appearance do a great job of reflecting a manga-like art style. The post has over 900 upvotes and a handful of positive comments, with many sharing an appreciation for how different the fan art is from the usual pieces that are shared.
Fan art Mercy from Overwatch
The Mercy fan art gives the healer some larger eyes, a pointed nose, and a small mouth so that she better fits the style Snoo_97932 was going for. Everything else, however, is a spot-on interpretation of Mercy. Her unique ponytail hairstyle can easily be seen at the top of the image, as can the halo that she wears on top of her head. Though they extend beyond the page, her wings can also be seen in the art piece. However, it is her suit that really stands out, as it is full of detail.
The various patterns and textures of the Mercy outfit are easy to distinguish from one another, with smart usage of a deep black reflecting the darker parts of the armor. Her logo can easily be seen on her left shoulder, while the piece that wraps around her neck and extends behind her ears stands out due to the lighter black that is used. With Redditors like jimbo80008 even claiming that this take on Mercy looks better than the official version available in the game, there is obviously a lot of appreciation for this Japanese-inspired version of the Support hero.
With Mercy getting a new suit and hairstyle in her Overwatch 2 redesign, it will be interesting to see if Snoo_97932 makes a similar piece based on it. Regardless, this artwork is very cool, and is yet another example of Mercy’s immense popularity.
Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
