Heart of the Marsh is a quest in New World that players can initiate by speaking with an NPC named Nekumanesh in Cutlass Keys. In this quest, fans will be searching for Nekumanesh’s wife, Jocelyn, and they may be a bit surprised by what they discover. For those New World players that may find themselves stuck at some point during Heart of the Marsh, a complete walkthrough of the quest can be found in what follows.
The first step toward tackling this task is to discover what happened to Jocelyn. This is done by traveling to Salty Marshes to the southwest, and fans should simply follow the quest waypoint that appears on the map in New World. Players that are having trouble finding this waypoint are advised to reference the video that is below, as it showcases the precise location that must be visited.

At this point New World players should see their quest objectives update, and this is where things can get tricky. While the instruction to recover Jocelyn’s Diary from Jocelyn Marshjaw is fairly straightforward in its meaning, actually fulfilling the requirement may give fans some trouble. There are a couple of reasons for this, and perhaps the primary offender at the time of writing is that the NPC that must be slain for the quest is not spawning consistently.
Indeed, it is intended that Marshjaw will spawn in the vicinity of the chest that is near the quest waypoint, and fans are expected to simply wait in that area until the creature appears. However, some players report that they have stayed in that position for up to an hour without ever seeing Marshjaw and are thus unable to complete Heart of the Marsh. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a workaround for this issue right now, and stuck players may need to wait for New World’s developer to provide a fix.
For those fans that are lucky enough to have Marshjaw spawn near the chest, the next step is to dust off a favorite weapon in New World and dispatch it. When that is done, players will be able to loot Jocelyn’s Diary from the corpse, and they will then receive instruction to return to Nekumanesh. Speaking with that character marks the end of the quest, and fans will be rewarded with an Adventurer’s Ring, 1,830 XP, 105 Coins, 250 Standing, and 20 Azoth for their efforts.
New World is available now on PC.
